1 Killed, 1 Arrested in DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Phelan Road in Phelan
PHELAN, CA (December 18, 2024) — One person died in a DUI hit-and-run accident on Phelan Road near Windermere Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly hit-and-run happened on December 16 around 5:05 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing a man driving erratically in a white Dodge Express van. Not long after, a driver of a 2005 Toyota Avalon collided with the side of a black flatbed two-axle trailer. However, it was unclear whether the Dodge van was pulling the trailer.
Instead of stopping, the van driver left the scene, but a Good Samaritan attempted to follow the suspect’s vehicle northbound on Wilson Ranch Road.
Sometime later, authorities apprehended the suspect who they believe was under the influence due to shortness of breath and other signs.
Following the crash, paramedics confirmed the driver of the Toyota deceased at the scene. Officials have not released the person’s name.
At this time, the CHP is actively looking into the details.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.
