DUI Suspect Strikes Five Pedestrians on 91 Freeway in Corona Killing One and Badly Injuring Four Others
CORONA, CA (July 30, 2024) – One person was killed and four other people were injured in a DUI crash on 91 Freeway in Corona late Saturday evening on July 27.
The fatal crash happened around 11:00 p.m. along the westbound freeway, just west of McKinley Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, a BMW and Hyundai were stopped at the right shoulder while the five occupants stood on the right shoulder of the dirt embankment.
For unknown reasons, a Nissan veered right and struck the left rear of the BMW. The impact caused the BMW to push into the pedestrian’s path hitting five people.
One of the five pedestrians suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Paramedics took the other four pedestrians to a hospital with major injuries.
Authorities arrested the Nissan driver, a 35-year-old Long Beach man, on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Further investigation is underway.
