SAN DIEGO, CA (October 18, 2024) — One person was injured in a broadside motorcycle accident on Washington Street near Third Avenue.

The San Diego Police Department said the accident happened around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. As a 48-year-old man in a westbound 2016 GMC Sierra tried turning left onto Third Avenue on a green light, an eastbound 2010 Aprilia RSV4 motorcycle collided with it. Authorities later learned that the motorcyclist unsafely used the right shoulder to enter the intersection to pass slower traffic as the GMC driver turned during a traffic break.

Due to the crash, the motorcyclist suffered a brain bleed and a skull fracture.

After the crash, authorities investigated and confirmed that DUI was not a factor in this crash. However, an investigation is ongoing to identify the details. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

When drivers are in a rush, they tend to speed. Avoid this and plan to leave for your destination at a decent time. Increased speed maximizes the risks. All road users must drive defensively and responsibly to avoid traffic accidents.
