1 Critically Injured in DUI Accident on 8 Freeway near Grossmont Boulevard [La Mesa, CA]

Early Morning Crash on 8 Freeway in La Mesa Leaves One with Life-Threatening Injuries, DUI Driver Arrested

 
LA MESA, CA (October 31, 2022) – One person was critically injured in a DUI accident on 8 Freeway in La Mesa early Thursday morning, October 27.
 
The accident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. just east of Grossmont Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 30-year-old El Cajon man was driving a Mercedes-Benz when he slammed into the back of the 1979 Toyota pickup, driven by a 53-year-old man who also lives in El Cajon.
 
After the crash, both vehicles veered off the roadway. The Toyota overturned, ejecting the driver.
 
First responders took both drivers to a hospital. The Toyota driver suffered critical injuries, while the driver of the Mercedes suffered major injuries.
 
Deputies later arrested the driver of the Mercedes for driving under the influence.
 
The CHP is still investigating the accident. They urged witnesses to contact the CHP’s EL Cajon office at 619-401-2000.
