51-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Northridge
NORTHRIDGE, CA (September 23, 2024) – Danny Oerlemans was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Northridge Thursday evening on September 19.
The fatal crash happened around 9:20 p.m. near North Lindley Avenue and Parthenia Street. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Oerlemans was riding his bicycle when a vehicle traveling north on Lindley struck him. The impact knocked him off his bicycle and into the street.
After the crash, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping.
Four or five additional vehicles also struck Oerlemans while he was lying in the street. It was unclear if an of those drivers stopped to cooperate with their investigation.
Oerlemans was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 51 years old, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s Office.
This fatality is still under investigation.
