Man Hospitalized in Scooter, Trolley Crash on Commercial Street in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 8, 2023) — A man was seriously injured in a scooter accident with a trolley on Commercial Street near 31st Street.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the two-vehicle collision happened around 3:00 p.m. Monday. For unknown reasons, a 29-year-old man riding an eastbound 2016 Vespa crashed into the back of a westbound light rail trolley.
Minutes later, paramedics arrived in the 3100 block of Commercial Street and rushed the victim to UCSD Hillcrest for treatment of life-threatening head injuries.
In the investigation, officers ruled out impairment as a possible factor. However, they are looking into the details to identify the events preceding the crash.
Operators of scooters must always wear a protective helmet. It is also important to never ride in another person’s blind spot. Since your vehicle travels slower than others nearby, being wary of your surroundings is crucial. Watching for hazards decreases the risks.
