Madden Westland Hurt, Henry Yang Involved in Suspected Hit-and-Run Skateboard Crash on Channel Islands Road near UCEN Road

 
SANTA BARBARA, CA (July 15, 2022) — Madden Westland suffered minor injuries in a suspected hit-and-run skateboard accident on Channel Islands Road near UCEN Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the skateboard accident happened back in May. Under unclear circumstances, a car described as a light brown or tan Cadillac-type vehicle, reportedly driven by UC Santa Barbara Chancellor Henry T. Yang, struck 19-year-old Madden Cade Westland.
 
Per reports, Westland was riding a skateboard across the crosswalk of Channel Islands Road when the accident occurred.
 
CHP reports indicated that Westland had a clear view of the driver and his passenger, later identified as Dilling Yang, the Chancellor’s wife. However, the Yangs believed otherwise, indicating that they always made sure their car did not make contact with anyone.
 
In the investigation, officers learned that their cars did not exude any scratches, streaks or scuffs that would indicate a person rolling over on the hood. With Westland’s inconsistent statements and lack of video surveillance and independent witnesses, the office ended up not filing any charges.
