South Los Angeles Hit-and-Run on Central Avenue, Driver Seriously Injured

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (June 21, 2022) – One person was severely injured in a hit-and-run crash at Central Avenue and 41st Street in South Los Angeles early Friday morning on June 17.

The accident happened around 1:50 a.m. just south of the University of Southern California. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a 2019 Mercedes-Benz C300 collided with a 2006 Nissan Altima after it failed to stop at a red light. The Mercedes driver then abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Responding paramedics transported the Nissan driver to a hospital with severe injuries.

The LAPD interviewed the registered owner of the Mercedes-Benz who denied driving that night, but it was unclear who was in fact driving.

At this time, police are still investigating the crash. They urged anyone with further information to call Det. Juan Campos at 213-833-3713 or email him at [email protected].

Running a red light usually results in a broadside accident. Avoid this by managing your speed at all times. Avoid distractions and pay attention to your surroundings. And when you get involved in an accident, do not leave the scene. Stop and call the authorities.
