Two-Car Accident on South Mollison Avenue in El Cajon Injures 3 and Causes Power Outage

EL CAJON, CA (March 29, 2022) – Three people were hurt in a two-car accident on South Mollison Avenue in El Cajon on Saturday morning.

The accident happened around 9:00 a.m. on March 26 near Merritt Drive. According to the El Cajon Police Department, a male driver of a Honda attempted to enter South Mollison Avenue from Merritt Drive and hit another Honda, occupied by two women, which was heading northbound.

The impact sent the second Honda into a power pole, which snapped it and caused the power lines to come down, police said. The women were trapped for a short time due to the electrical lines.

Arriving paramedics transported all three patients to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Meanwhile, the downed pole started to catch a tree on fire.

Police said all power was off for hundreds of people in the neighborhood and the water was off at the Portofino Apartment complex.

SDG&E was at the scene working on the power pole.

The crash is still under investigation.
