Traffic Accident on 580 Freeway in San Leandro Kills Motorcyclist

 
SAN LEANDRO, CA (February 27, 2022) – A motorcyclist died in a multi-vehicle accident on 580 Freeway in San Leandro on Friday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 1:15 p.m. on February 25 near the Grand Avenue exit. CHP officials said a Harley Davidson motorcycle with a rider and passenger entered the freeway when it collided with a Nissan Murano SUV.
 
Both rider and passenger were ejected from the crash. A Ford Explorer then struck the rider. The impact sent the motorcycle further east along traffic lanes, into a second motorcycle that was stopped in traffic.
 
Firefighter paramedics arrived soon after and transported the rider and passenger to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
 
Despite life-saving efforts at the hospital, the rider did not survive and was pronounced dead. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau only described them as a 37-year-old Modesto resident.
 
The motorcycle passenger suffered major injuries, but in stable condition.
 
At this time, an investigation is underway. Officials asked anyone with further information to call the CHP’s Castro Valley office at 510-581-9028.
