Modesto Man Suffers Traumatic Brain Injury after Alleged DUI Crash near Hilmar, Ana Rivera Arrested

 
HILMAR, CA (January 3, 2022)Stephen Austin Adams suffered severe injuries in a DUI crash on Highway 165 south of Hilmar.
 
The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. on December 5 near Westside Boulevard. CHP officials said 20-year-old Modesto resident Adams was a passenger in a car, driven by his girlfriend Ana Rivera.
 
As Rivera approached a curve near Westside Boulevard, she lost control of the vehicle. She then drove straight into a utility pole, which fell on top of the vehicle.
 
As a result, Adams suffered broken ribs and a head injury. Paramedics took him to Doctors Medical Center.
 
Meanwhile, Rivera had lacerations and cuts. She was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
 
Police found Rivera had signs of intoxication and arrested her on a felony DUI charge.
 
Adams is undergoing rehabilitation at a Bay Area facility that specializes in traumatic brain injury, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help fund his treatment.
 
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
