Fatal Fiery Accident Involving Two Truck and SUV on 60 Freeway in South El Monte

 
SOUTH EL MONTE, CA (December 6, 2021) – One person was killed in a fiery accident on 60 Freeway in South El Monte, early Friday morning.
 
The accident happened around 3:24 a.m. on December 3 at the Santa Anita Avenue off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, a tow truck operator was working to remove a stalled white sedan from the slow lane.
 
He was blocking the vehicle with his tow truck when for unknown reasons, a black Mercedes SUV lost control from the fast lane and rear-ended the tow truck.
 
The impact caused the SUV to burst into flames. The Los Angeles County Fire Department crews immediately responded and extinguished the flames.
 
Sadly, the driver of the SUV suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin is notified.
 
The CHP closed the freeway at Peck Road while they investigated the fatality.
