Two Deputies Injured in Accident on 580 Freeway in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (November 18, 2021) – Police confirmed that a high-speed pursuit led to an accident on 580 Freeway on November 17.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 98th Avenue shortly before noon.
 
Based on an initial report, the incident started in Castro Valley when the suspect stole a green Ranger pickup truck on Foothill Boulevard. Officers noticed it and chased after the suspect who fled onto the freeway. Then, the suspect abandoned the vehicle, got into a Honda Civic, and drove away, striking two deputies.
 
As a result, one deputy broke his arm and suffered a laceration to his hand while the other sustained minor scrapes.
 
Eventually, the suspect crashed at the 98th Avenue offramp, hitting several innocent motorists in the process. In the end, officers arrested the man.
 
At this point, an investigation in the accident on 580 Freeway is ongoing.
