Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 247 in Lucerne Valley Kills 1 and Seriously Injures Another

LUCERNE VALLEY, CA (July 20, 2021) – A man died in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 247 in Lucerne Valley Monday last week.

The accident happened just before 10:00 p.m. on July 12, near Medanos Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 21-year-old Apple Valley man was driving a 2007 Ford F-350 southbound, while a 29-year-old Oxnard man was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche carrying three passengers northbound. The victim, a 29-year-old Hesperia man, was driving a 2003 Dodge Dart behind the Avalanche.

For unknown reasons, the Ford veered into the northbound lane and rear-ended the Avalanche. After this impact, the Ford turned to the right, directly into the path of the Dodge.

The driver of the Dodge attempted to make an evasive turn to the left, in attempt to avoid a collision, but the Ford collided into the left side of the Dodge.

As a result, the driver of the Dodge died at the scene. His name was not immediately available.

Mercy Air took the driver of the Ford to Loma Linda University Medical Center with major injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver and passengers of the Avalanche did not sustain injuries.

CHP officials said drugs and/or alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.

We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
