Single Car Involved in Fatal Accident on Highway 101 in Carpinteria

 
CARPINTERIA, CA (May 26, 2021) – Police confirmed that a woman died in a car accident on Highway 101 on April 30.
 
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 58-year-old Diane Hunter of Goleta. According to the Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Hunter retired in 2018 as a Records Clerk Supervisor with the Sheriff’s Office.
 
California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a vehicle versus tree near Summerland Friday evening last month. The crash happened on Highway 101 northbound just north of the Padaro Lane off-ramp at around 6:30 p.m.
 
Based on a report, Hunter was driving on the northbound lane of the highway prior to the crash. Due to unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a tree.
 
As a result, Hunter died at the scene.
 
Carpinteria-Summerland Fire officials were the ones to respond in the area. Crews instated a hard closure of the right lane while officials assess the scene.
 
At this point, no other details are available. In addition, the car accident is still under investigation.
