Jose Deras Dies in Box Truck, Big Rig Crash on 605 Freeway in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (December 20, 2024) — Jose Deras died in a big rig accident on the 605 Freeway near Wardlow Road Wednesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle accident happened around 11:00 a.m. CHP said a box truck driver crashed into a big rig that was pulled over on the right side of a 605 South Freeway.
Subsequently, Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene and tried to save the man’s life. However, he passed away just before noon. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the victim as 31-year-old Deras.
Following the accident, Caltrans closed the freeway around 1:30 p.m. as crews investigated the scene.
Detectives have not said what led to the accident, but an investigation should confirm the details.
