Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Two Hit-and-Run Drivers on Union Avenue in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 11, 2024) – A man was killed in a DUI hit-and-run crash on Union Avenue in Bakersfield Monday evening on December 9.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:18 p.m. at Brundage Lane. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, a Toyota sedan was traveling south on Union Avenue when it hit the male pedestrian that was crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk.
 
After the initial crash, the pedestrian was struck by a Ram pickup truck.
 
The pedestrian died dead at the scene.
 
Both drivers took off, but the driver of the Ram returned and cooperated with police.
 
Police later located the driver of the Toyota, identified as 21-year-old Oscar Quintero-Lopez, at a residence in southeast Bakersfield along with his vehicle. They arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and a hit-and-run.

Police said impairment was not a factor for the driver of the Ram and that driver was released pending further investigation. They asked anyone with information on the crash to contact the department at 661-327-7111.
