Child Suffers Major Injuries after Hit by Truck on Rios Canyon Road in El Cajon

 
EL CAJON, CA (April 21, 2024) – A 9-year-old boy was seriously injured after he was hit by a truck on Rios Canyon Road in El Cajon Sunday night on April 14.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 76-year-old man from El Cajon was driving a 1991 GMC Sierra northbound on Rios Canyon Road toward Kelli Lane. At the same time, the child was attempting to walk west across Rios Canyon Road from the east. The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian and his truck crashed into him around 6:00 p.m.
 
As a result, the child suffered major injuries. Paramedics rushed him to Rady Children’s Hospital for proper treatment.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the Sierra stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers.
 
According to CHP, alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor in the crash. An investigation is still ongoing.
