Driver Esmeralda Bejar Killed in Highway 101 Fiery Crash in San San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA (March 10, 2021) – A woman who died in a car accident Tuesday morning in San Jose has been identified by authorities.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as 45-year-old Esmeralda Carrillo Bejar of San Jose.

Around 8:05 a.m. on March 2 a CHP officer traveling north on Highway 101 in the area of Alum Rock Avenue came across the crash scene with a vehicle engulfed in flames.

Bejar was unable to get out of the vehicle and died at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, Bejar was driving a 2018 Toyota RAV4 that was stopped on the highway. A 2014 Dodge 5500 truck then rear-ended her car, forcing it to collide with another vehicle that then struck a fourth vehicle.

Impairment is not believed to have been a factor, CHP officials said. Further investigation is underway.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Esmeralda Bejar.
