Ty Burks Seriously Injured, Zachary Coker Detained in Davis Accident

 
DAVIS, CA (February 3, 2021) – A man was arrested after a DUI accident Saturday, January 16 in Davis.
 
The crash happened around 12:45 p.m. on Highway 102, just south of Highway 29. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2001 BMW was traveling south on Highway 102 when it lost control. It the crashed into a utility pole and caught fire.
 
The flames spread into a nearby field, causing a small brush fire. Both the fire and crash led to the closure of Pole Line Road between Highway 29 and Moore Boulevard. The fires were contained and the road reopened around 3:00 p.m., according to the CHP.
 
Shortly after the crash, there were also reports of power outages in the area.
 
When officers arrived, the found the driver and a passenger suffering from serious injuries. CHP identified the driver as 25-year-old Zachary Coker of Citrus Heights and the passenger as 25-year-old Ty Burks of Rocklin.
 
Paramedics airlifted both patients to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
 
CHP investigators suspect that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
 
Coker was taken into custody by officers, the CHP said. Further investigation is underway.
