Azusa Bicycle Crash with Motorcycle Officer, Xueqi Li Killed

 
AZUSA, CA (February 4, 2022) — One person died in a bicycle accident with an Azusa Police Department motorcycle officer on Cienega Avenue at Sunflower Avenue on Monday evening.
 
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office identified the victim as 67-year-old Xueqi Li.
 
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal crash happened around 9:10 p.m. on the border of Covina and the unincorporated Charter Oak area. Under unclear circumstances, Li was reportedly crossing Cienega Avenue at Asherton Avenue when he was struck by the off-duty Azusa Police Department officer, who was traveling east on Cienega Avenue on his way home.
 
Soon after, paramedics arrived to the scene and brought Li to a hospital, where he died.
 
As of now, the officer remains hospitalized in stable condition.
 
At this time, the details of the crash require additional investigation. However, anyone with information should reach out to the CHP.
