Worker Hurt in Electrical Incident at Cal Poly Pomona

POMONA, CA (December 8, 2021) — A worker was injured in an electrical accident at Cal Poly Pomona on University Drive.

According to reports, the incident happened around 10:30 a.m. at the Art Department and Engineering Annex of Cal Poly Pomona. At the time, a worker partook in a multi-year electrical infrastructure upgrade project but sustained an injury due to an electrical mishap.

Soon after, the unidentified worker sought care at an emergency room and later went home with only minor injuries.

At this time, officials believe one phase of electricity got connected to another phase of electricity, causing an arc flash. However, an ongoing investigation remains as authorities determine how this arc flash occurred, whether it be from a previous manual modification, condensation or corroded parts.

To avert electrical accidents, closely monitor the potential hazards when conducting work. Doing so should maximize the safety of others and prevent potential hazards.
