Woman Dies in Brawley Semi-Truck Accident on Highway 111

 
BRAWLEY, CA (February 2, 2021) – A 22-year-old Calexico woman died Tuesday in a semi-truck accident on Highway 111 near Schartz Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the semi-truck accident happened around 10:18 a.m.
 
The victim, the only occupant in her 2013 Fiat, was traveling east on Highway 111. After stopping at a stop sign, she drove into the path of a northbound 2013 Freightliner semi-truck.
 
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 47-year-old Juan L. Morales of Yuma, applied the brakes but could not stop in time and plowed into the left side of the Fiat.
 
As a result, the woman sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Morales complained of pain. An ambulance took him to El Centro Regional Medical Center for proper treatment.
 
Both Morales and the woman were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision. The semi-truck accident is under investigation.
