Woman Dies after Crashing into Back of Semi Truck on Highway 99 in Turlock

 
TURLOCK, CA (May 23, 2022) – A woman died in a rear-end accident on Highway 99 in Turlock on Friday afternoon, May 20.
 
The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. just south of Lander Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2020 Kenworth tractor-trailer combination from Bakersfield had pulled to the west shoulder of the highway after noticing a mechanical issue with his trailer.
 
The 51-year-old Livingston woman was driving a 2011 Buick SUV. For unknown reasons, she veered onto the shoulder and crashed into the back of the trailer.
 
As a result of the crash, the woman suffered major injuries. Arriving paramedics rushed her to Doctors Medical Center, where she later died.
 
The driver of the semi was unharmed.
 
The CHP said the woman was not wearing a seat belt and likely would have survived if she had one on because the inside of the SUV did not come into contact with the trailer.
 
At this time, it is unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. An investigation is underway.
