Woman Dies after Struck by Several Hit-and-Run Drivers on Bancroft Avenue in Oakland
OAKLAND, CA (May 23, 2022) – A 63-year-old woman was killed in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash on Bancroft Avenue in East Oakland on Saturday evening.
The accident happened around 10:33 p.m. on May 21 just near 62nd Avenue. According to the Oakland Police Department, the female pedestrian had laid down in the 6200 block of Bancroft Avenue when several vehicles struck her.
As a result, the woman suffered major head trauma and died at the scene. She was an Oakland resident.
All the involved vehicles did not stop, police said.
Why the woman laid down in the roadway is still under investigation. Police are also trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the identities of any of the drivers that fled. Anyone with information is asked to call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570.
