Police Arrest Drunk Driver after Fatally Striking Woman and Injuring Her Companion in Pacific Beach

 
PACIFIC BEACH, CA (January 23, 2023) – A woman died and police arrested Nestor Hernandez after a DUI crash in Pacific Beach early Sunday morning on January 21.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on Riviera Drive near Edge Cliff Drive. According to the San Diego Police Department, Hernandez was driving a Toyota Tacoma when his pickup truck went onto the sidewalk. He then struck the 22-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man who was with her.
 
The victims had parked their Chevrolet Tahoe on the side of the street and were standing on the sidewalk. That was when the Tacoma, heading south on Riviera Drive, jumped the sidewalk and struck both of them, as well as the Tahoe.
 
First responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene. They found the man pinned underneath the Tacoma and took him to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
Meanwhile, police arrested the 22-year-old suspect on suspicion of murder and driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
The identities of the victims were not immediately available. Further investigation is underway.
