Police Arrests DUI Hit-and-Run Driver Mason Howard after Fatally Striking Pedestrian on Mission Inn Avenue

 
RIVERSIDE, CA (April 18, 2021) – A woman was killed and Mason Rodney Howard was arrested after a DUI hit-and-run crash on Mission Inn Avenue in Riverside.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:53 p.m. Saturday, April 17, just west of Indian Hill Road. According to the Riverside Police Department, the 22-year-old Laguna Niguel man was driving a red 2003 Ford Ranger eastbound when he struck the woman.
 
The woman had been standing in the roadway’s eastbound lanes, in the path of the oncoming Ranger. She was tending to a small dog who had been previously struck by a vehicle, police said.
 
As a result, the unidentified woman suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
 
Howard allegedly did not stop after the crash but was followed by a witness and eventually arrested by police.
 
Policed booked Howard into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and DUI. He remained jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.
 
An investigation is ongoing.
