DUI Accident on Highway 16 in Yolo County Kills Passenger, Driver Arrested

 
YOLO COUNTY, CA (June 7, 2021) – A woman was killed and a man was arrested in a DUI accident on Highway 16 in unincorporated Yolo County early Friday morning.
 
The accident happened shortly after 1:00 a.m. on June 4, near County Road 94B between Woodland and Esparto. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2005 Toyota Corolla was heading eastbound on Highway 16 when it veered into the westbound lane. It then began traveling the wrong way on the dirt shoulder before crashing head-on into a culvert and a pole.
 
The impact caused the Toyota to overturn, ejecting the female passenger who was not wearing a seat belt.
 
Paramedics rushed the woman to Kaiser Vacaville Medical Center, where the victim later died. Authorities only identified her as a 29-year-old Esparto resident.
 
Meanwhile, the male driver sustained moderate injuries. CHP officers arrested him at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
