Head-On Accident along Historic Route 66 in Cajon Pass Kills 1 Driver

 
CAJON PASS, CA (December 7, 2021) – A woman died in a head-on accident along Historic Route 66 in the Cajon Pass on Monday, November 29.
 
The accident happened around 2:50 p.m. on Cajon Boulevard, just south of Keenbrook Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a blue Chrysler 200 was traveling northbound when the driver crossed over the double yellow lines and into opposing traffic to pass slower-moving traffic in front of him.
 
Meanwhile, a Ford Escape was heading southbound on Cajon Boulevard when it was slammed head-on by the Chrysler.
 
The impact caused the Ford to travel off the road to the right into a ditch. The Chrysler then collided into a vehicle that was stopped in the northbound lanes due to heavy traffic.
 
Firefighters extricated the female driver of the Ford, who was trapped inside the vehicle. Paramedics then rushed the woman to a local hospital.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office will release her identity once her family members are notified.
 
There were no signs of impairment of any of the drivers, authorities said.
 
An investigation into this fatality is underway. The CHP asked anyone with further information to call them at 909-383-4247.
