Woman Dies after Struck by DUI Driver while Sleeping in Driveway on East San Ysidro Boulevard
SAN YSIDRO, CA (January 15, 2025) – A woman was killed in a DUI pedestrian crash on East San Ysidro Boulevard in San Ysidro early Sunday morning.
The fatal crash happened around 5:47 a.m. on January 12. According to the San Diego Police Department, a man had been in Tijuana all night and had returned to his parked car in San Ysidro at 600 East San Ysidro Boulevard.
Instead of putting the car into reverse, the man accidentally drove the car forward and over a retaining wall, where the car got stuck. He then called a tow truck to help him get the car free.
When the tow truck arrived, they discovered that the victim was beneath the front of the man’s car.
Paramedics responded and attempted life-saving measures, but the woman died at the scene.
It appears that the woman may have been sleeping next to the retaining wall when the car drove over her.
Police later arrested the man on suspicion of driving under the influence.
No other information available at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
