Woman Dead, 2 Hurt in Off-Road Crash at Better Sand Dunes in Johnson Valley

 
JOHNSON VALLEY, CA (February 3, 2023) — A woman died, and two people were injured in an off-road accident at Better Sand Dunes near Highway 247.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal off-highway vehicle crash happened around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday. For unknown reasons, a Polaris RZR carrying three people inside crested a hill while traveling northbound but overturned and rolled over several times.
 
In spite of everyone wearing a helmet and a harness inside the vehicle, a 28-year-old woman from Yucaipa sitting in the rear seat suffered major injuries. Arriving paramedics brought her to a Morongo Basin ambulance nearby where she died. The 30-year-old driver and 24-year-old front-seat passenger suffered moderate and major injuries. Emergency personnel shuttled them to Desert Regional Medical Center for care.
 
At this time, detectives will be investigating the motive for the crash. So far, they have ruled out alcohol and drugs as possible factors.
