Nicholas Howder Arrested after Fatal Car Crash on Blanco Road near Armstrong Road

 
SALINAS, CA (February 21, 2022) – A woman and a dog were killed in a police chase crash on Blanco Road, Wednesday evening.
 
According to the Salinas Police Department, the incident happened on February 16 at about 10:14 p.m. Officers spotted a reported stolen vehicle near Boronda Road and attempted to pull over the driver.
 
However, the driver did not stop and immediately turned going to Auto Center Circle. After failing to enter the closed gates, the driver went southbound on Davis Road.
 
A short time later, the stolen vehicle entered Blanco Road, where the driver lost control. Then, the vehicle left the roadway, slammed into a road sign, and fell into a ditch. As per reports, the vehicle also rolled over multiple times near Armstrong Road.
 
Salinas firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to free a trapped passenger. Responders later pronounced the female passenger dead at the scene.
 
Officers confirmed that a pit bull that was inside the vehicle also died.
 
Meanwhile, the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Nicholas Howder, sustained moderate injuries and needed hospitalization.
 
Howder will face charges of evading, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving on a suspended license, and vehicular manslaughter.
