Woman Killed in Head-On Crash with Big Rig on Highway 33 in Firebaugh
FIREBAUGH, CA (August 5, 2022) — A woman died in a head-on accident with a big rig on Highway 33 and Shaw Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-vehicle crash happened around 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday. For unknown reasons, a woman driving a Hyundai veered from the southbound lane into the northbound lane. Subsequently, her Hyundai collided head-on with a northbound Freightliner hauling tomatoes.
Shortly after, fire paramedics and police officers responded to the scene. They spotted both vehicles and the woman, who was ejected from her car. Despite efforts to save her, authorities pronounced her dead at the scene. Police have not yet released her name but described her as a woman in her 30s.
As for the Freightliner driver, a man in his 60s, he reported no injuries in the crash.
At this time, investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a part in the accident. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm any unclear details.
