Woman Killed, Box Truck Crashes Into Cars on Highway 12 in Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA, CA (August 11, 2022) — A woman died after a box truck crashed into several cars on Highway 12 near Dutton Avenue on Wednesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly multi-vehicle crash happened around 8:00 a.m. For unknown reasons, a driver of a delivery box truck failed to slow down behind slow-moving traffic. As a result, the delivery driver, moving about 55 miles per hour, swerved to the left to avoid an imminent crash.
However, the box truck slammed into the left rear of a Nissan Versa that was traveling about 10 mph to slow down for stopped traffic on the off-ramp.
As a result, the Nissan Versa traveled toward the right shoulder and overturned onto the guardrail. Meanwhile, the box truck continued out of control and struck four cars before overturning on its side.
Soon after, firefighters extricated the female Nissan driver from the car. After that, paramedics transported her to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where she died. Authorities have yet to release her name.
The box truck driver who suffered minor injuries was also brought to the same hospital. In addition, some of the other involved drivers also suffered minor injuries in the accident.
