Scooter Rider Dies after Struck by Two Hit-and-Run Drivers on Lucretia Avenue in San Jose

 
SAN JOSE, CA (March 28, 2022)Wayne Bernard Mays was killed in a scooter hit-and-run crash at Lucretia Avenue and Taji Drive, early Saturday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:53 a.m. on March 26. According to the San Jose Police Department, a gray 2017 Honda sedan was traveling northbound on Lucretia Avenue in the far left lane when it struck Mays, who was riding a motorized scooter and was going in the same direction.
 
After the crash, the driver of the Honda fled the scene. A midsize white SUV also struck Mays, who was lying in the roadway. That driver also took off without rendering aid.
 
Responding paramedics rushed Mays to a hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.
 
Police are still investigating the fatality. They urged anyone with information to contact Detective Malvido of the San Jose Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit at (408) 277-4654.
