Jade Torres, Valerie Castellanos Die in Indio Car Accident

 
INDIO, CA (June 24, 2021) – Two people died Sunday morning in a traffic accident on Dillon Road near Berdoo Canyon Road June 20.
 
Officials identified the two victims as Jade Torres and Valerie Castellanos, both 17-years-old Indio residents.
 
The accident happened around 5:17 a.m. on Sunday. CHP officials said that a teenager – not one of the fatal victims – drove a 2012 Nissan Altima at 80-90 mph eastbound on Dillon Road. After that, the vehicle veered off the road and into the open desert area.
 
The car crashed into a tree, then went airborne, before it landed back on its wheels. The force caused the front seat passenger to eject from the vehicle and the right rear seat passenger to suffer chest trauma. As a result, Castellanos and Torres died at the scene.
 
According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the 17-year-old driver was taken by paramedics to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment of what were described as major injuries.
 
The girl — whose name was not released because she is underage — barely survived the crash. Investigators are awaiting the test results of her blood-alcohol content. However, initial indicators pointed to signs of alleged intoxication. She is expected to be arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
