Driver Jaquane Carter Dies in Rear-End Crash Involving SUV and Semi on 10 Freeway in Beaumont
BEAUMONT, CA (April 15, 2022) – A US Navy serviceman was killed in a rear-end accident on 10 Freeway in Beaumont on Friday, April 1.
Police identified the Navy man as 30-year-old Jaquane Carter of Burgaw, North Carolina, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau.
The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. at Beaumont Avenue. According to the CHP, a 2019 Freightliner towing a 53-foot semi-trailer slowed for stopped traffic. Carter was driving west in a 2015 Kia Sportage in the number four lane of 10 Freeway when he failed to see stopped traffic ahead.
As a result, Carter slammed into the back of the stopped Freightliner.
Riverside County Fire Department crews arrived soon after and pronounced Carter dead at the scene. Carter was stationed out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 56-year-old truck driver from Desert Hot Springs suffered minor injuries in the incident; his unidentified passenger was not injured, according to the CHP report.
No arrests were announced. However, an investigation into the is ongoing.
