UPDATE: Joseph Angel Mendoza Killed in Car Accident on Hazel Avenue near Elm Avenue [Orangevale, CA]

Joseph Mendoza Dead, 1 Hospitalized in Car Crash on Hazel Avenue in Orangevale

 
ORANGEVALE, CA (June 6, 2022) — One person died in a car accident on Hazel Avenue near Elm Avenue on Tuesday night, May 31.
 
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office on identified the victim as 26-year-old Joseph Angel Mendoza of Orangevale.
 
According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, the accident happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the 6800 block of Hazel Avenue. A 2018 Honda driven by Mendoza was heading south at a high rate of speed near Elm Avenue, near the Orangevale Community Center.
 
At the same time, a 2006 Lexus driven by a 38-year-old Orangevale woman was stopped in a left turn lane on northbound Hazel Avenue. She was preparing to turn into a private driveway, according to the news release.
 
Mendoza’s vehicle collided into the right side of the Lexus as the Lexus made its left turn, CHP officials said. The Honda then veered off Hazel Avenue into a wooden power pole and a metal fence along the roadway.
 
Mendoza, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries.
 
Shortly after, The woman driving the Lexus was taken to a hospital with injuries described as major. She was wearing a seat belt, according to the CHP collision report.
 
The CHP said it was unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
 
An investigation is underway.
