Wrong-Way Accident on 91 Freeway in Long Beach Kills Two
LONG BEACH, CA (July 26, 2021) – Two women were killed in a wrong-way accident on 91 Freeway in Long Beach Sunday morning.
The accident happened around 5:20 a.m. on July 25, near Atlantic Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 21-year-old Palmdale woman was speeding west in the eastbound lanes of the freeway in a Honda sedan. She then collided head-on into another vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old Hemet woman.
As a result, both women suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities will release their identities once their family members are notified.
Crews closed the freeway for nearly six hours for the investigation. All lanes were reopened shortly before 11:00 a.m.
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in this fatal crash.
