Accident and Shooting Reported on 5 Freeway at Fawndale Road in Redding

 
REDDING, CA (May 29, 2022) – Police responded to a two-vehicle accident and a shooting incident on 5 Freeway on May 26.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Fawndale Road around 1:40 PM.
 
Based on reports, two vehicles collided in the lanes. Subsequently, police said the crash started a fire that held at about a half-acre in size. Also, there was a report from a witness of a weapon being inside one of the vehicles.
 
In addition, the report said the person inside that vehicle was not cooperating with authorities.
 
Afterward, there had been a police shooting in the area.
 
As a result, authorities closed the freeway’s northbound lanes.
 
As of now, an investigation is still ongoing. In addition, the incident is under a multi-agency investigation that includes the Redding Police Department and Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.
