Two People Hit, Killed by Drivers on 805 Freeway

NATIONAL CITY, CA (October 19, 2021) — Two people were hit and killed by cars on the 805 Freeway near Plaza Boulevard Sunday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident happened around 8:24 p.m. For unknown reasons, a gray Toyota XA crashed into a white Honda Civic on the northbound freeway.
 
After that, man and a woman exited the Toyota, jumped the center median and attempted to run across the southbound lanes.
 
However, an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado struck the woman while a Mazda slammed into the man.
 
Tragically, both victims died at the scene.
 
At this time, detectives have no word on why the couple tried to flee or what drove the initial crash. However, any witnesses with information should contact the CHP.
