Two Men Fatally Injured in Multi-Car Accident on Highway 59 near Furtado Road

 
MERCED, CA (June 22, 2022) — Two men from Merced died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 59 early Tuesday, June 21.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, three sedans traveled south on Highway 59 at around 4:15 a.m. At the same time, a 2022 Volvo big rig traveled in the other direction, near Furtado Road in El Nido.
 
Officer Eric Zuniga said that for an unknown reason, the big rig went into the oncoming traffic, hitting the three vehicles.
 
CHP said a driver, a 33-year-old man, in a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe and a passenger, a 22-year-old man, in a 2011 Ford Fusion died shortly after officers arrived.
 
Additionally, a 20-year-old man driving the Ford sustained major injuries. Medics then rushed him to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto hospital.
 
A 54-year-old man from Los Banos involved in the crash while driving a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic did not sustain any injuries. The 28-year-old man from Kingsburg driving the big rig also did not report any injuries.
