Driver Evading Police Causes Fatal Accident on Lawrence Expressway in San Jose

 
SAN JOSE, CA (April 29, 2021) – Two people died in an accident on Lawrence Expressway in West San Jose late Monday evening, April 26.
 
The collision happened just before 10:00 p.m. near Mitty Way after deputies tried to stop a northbound 2017 Honda accord for a traffic violation. The Honda did not stop, ran a red light and hit a southbound 1999 Toyota Camry that was turning left onto Mitty Way. The impact sent the Camry several hundred feet into the sound wall along Lawrence Expressway.
 
As a result, the man driving the Camry and the woman riding with him died at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release their identities once family members are properly notified.
 
The Honda’s driver and his 17-year-old passenger suffered moderate injuries. Police later arrested both on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, evading a peace officer, and assorted gun and drug offenses.
