Plane Crashes near South Lake Tahoe Killing Two People

 
ALPINE COUNTY, CA (June 15, 2024) – Two people were killed in a plane crash in a mountainous area south of South Lake Tahoe Wednesday evening on June 12.
 
Around 1:00 a.m. on June 13, the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office said they were notified of an overdue aircraft. The aircraft was plotted in the Willow Creek area near Luther Pass. Willow Creek flows from an area west of Jobs Peak into the West Fork of the Carson River near the intersection of Highway 89 and Highway 88.
 
First responders found the crash adjacent to Willow Creek Road, about 10 miles south of South Lake Tahoe. They said two people on board the plane died.
 
The identities of the victims were not immediately available.
 
The Federal Aviation Administration believe the crash happened sometime between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Wednesday after it departed from Lodi Airport.
 
An investigation is ongoing.
