SANTEE, CA (October 12, 2021) – Two people died in a small plane crash near Santana High School in Santee Monday afternoon.

The fatal crash happened around 12:14 p.m. on October 11, about three blocks from the school near Jeremy Street and Greenscale Street. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Cessna C340 twin-engine plane went down less than two-tenths of a mile east of the school’s football field. It struck a UPS delivery truck and two homes.

The impact caused both homes to burst into flames. The delivery truck was also burned.

The pilot and the driver of the truck both died at the scene. Their identities were not immediately available.

At least two people suffered burn injuries and are in serious condition. Authorities believed they were in the homes on the ground.

Power was also knocked out in the neighborhood.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash. They had not yet determined whether gusty onshore winds whipping the region were a factor.
