Motorcyclist and Car Passenger Die after Crash on West Mission Bay Drive
MISSION BAY, CA (May 21, 2023) – Two people died in a motorcycle accident at West Mission Bay Drive and Dana Landing Road on Thursday morning.
The fatal accident happened just before 9:00 a.m. on May 18. According to the San Diego Police Department, a 34-year-old man was riding a Honda CBR600RR sport bike west on West Mission Bay Drive when he tried to pass a Toyota Prius, driven by a 42-year-old man who was trying to turn right onto Dana Landing.
While attempting to pass the Prius, the rider crashed into the sedan and was thrown off his motorcycle before landing in the northwest corner of the intersection. He died at the scene.
A 39-year-old woman who was a front-seat passenger in the car was transported to the hospital, where she also succumbed to her injuries.
A 38-year-old woman in the car suffered a minor abrasion.
The driver of the Prius and two juvenile passengers, were uninjured.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor. An investigation into this crash is underway.
