Early Morning Head-On Accident on 5 Freeway in Los Hills Kills 2 People
LOST HILLS, CA (July 13, 2022) – Two people were killed in a head-on accident on 5 Freeway in Los Hills early Monday morning, July 11.
The accident happened around 3:25 a.m. just south of Twissleman Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2014 Freightliner was traveling northbound when it veered across the road for unknown reasons. It then struck head-on into a 2009 Kenworth that was heading south.
As a result of the crash, both drivers suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. One driver was a 44-year-old Montclair man and the other was a 55-year-old Healdsburg resident.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office withheld their identities pending notification of their next of kin.
Their respective cargo loads spilled onto the southbound lanes of the freeway and partially into the northbound side as well, prompting a temporary lane closure.
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
