Early Morning Fiery Crash on 10 Freeway in Indio Kills 2 People

 
INDIO, CA (January 31, 2023) – Two people died in a fiery crash on 10 Freeway near the Chiriaco Summit and Indio early Monday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:14 a.m. on January 30, just west of Hayfield Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Subaru SUV carrying two people was traveling westbound on the highway when it rear-ended a tractor-trailer for unknown reasons. The Subaru lost control from the impact and became disabled in the westbound lanes of traffic.
 
Another big rig then struck the Subaru, causing the SUV to burst into flames.
 
The two occupants of the SUV both died at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office withheld their identities pending family notification.
 
It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway. Authorities asked anyone with information to call Officer Deleon at 760-772-5300.
