Car Accident on 5 Freeway in Anderson Kills Driver and Passenger

 
ANDERSON, CA (March 18, 2021) – Two people died early Wednesday morning after a car accident on 5 Freeway at the Riverside Avenue off-ramp.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 4:15 a.m., March 17 just north of the Sacramento River Bridge.
 
A witness told officials that a white 2006 Toyota sped up behind them when it lost control. The Toyota then went off the freeway through a fence and crashed into a tree.
 
First responders found the vehicle on the west shoulder of Riverland Drive. Emergency personnel pronounced the driver and his passenger dead at the scene. The driver is a 40-year-old man and his passenger is a 25-year-old woman. Both were Anderson residents.
 
Authorities said the victims were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
 
It is unknown at this time if drug or alcohol was a factor in the accident. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
