Two Hospitalized in Suspected DUI Accident on 15 Freeway [Escondido, CA]

Man and Woman Injured after Alleged DUI Accident on 15 Freeway near Del Lago Boulevard

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (April 28, 2021) — Two people sustained injuries following an alleged DUI accident on 15 Freeway on Thursday, April 22.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, they received reports of the crash just after 4 a.m. Thursday. Officers responded on northbound 15 Freeway near Del Lago Boulevard.
 
Reports said that a 32-year-old Lemon Grove man was behind the wheel of a stolen 2014 Ford Fusion sedan. Then it crashed into the back of a semi-truck while both vehicles were in the far right lane of the northbound freeway.
 
The force of the crash wedged the Ford under the semi-truck’s trailer. Escondido Fire Department personnel freed both the Ford driver and his 32-year-old female passenger. Paramedics rushed them both to Palomar Hospital for treatment with major injuries.
 
The 43-year-old male driver of the semi-truck did not sustain injuries, authorities said.
 
CHP believes that the Ford driver was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
 
The investigation is still underway.
